Reid, one thing I've noticed (in my expierence) is that there is little elder oversight of the young and younger guys in the church - particularly singles. I was talking with a buddy of mine recently, and we both agreed that we don't have any local elder influence in our respective lives. and, what's worse, my friend is currently in Seminary and works at a church! I don't know if this is separate to the problem of feminization of the church, but my opinion is that the two are related.
Also, this is why I'm thankful for guys like you and Sandy. I could tell you were involved with the male athletes while at VT and those guys were better for it. Also, Sandy and his investment in "young bucks". Anyways, I hope that's an encouragement.

Ben, thanks man, your encouragement is really fresh wind in the sails.
I tell you this is a huge issue in the churches. It has become a burden to my soul to develop young men over time...
Sandy, has been a great friend to me and mentor at a distance. May his tribe increase.
Go get up in the grill of one of your elders and tell him you want to be God's man - make em say no! Cause they might just need the prompting to say YES!
