Al Mohler weighs in on the Secret. Pretty helpful. If you have not already read Donald Whitney's book review, check that out as well.
Newsweek has an article on the Secret - an old blasphemy that is made ever new in every age. You can be your own God - that is the secret. The sad thing is that several people have shared with me that Christian people are buying this stuff.

Name-it and-claim-it has been around since the prosperity gospel. Now Oprah's on board pushing this book. I wouldn't be surprised to see it on TBN, next-- same thing their televangelists preach all the time.
I call it "Blab it and grab it" theology.
SNL had a great sketch on it. They were trying to tell this guy in Sudan who was starving and being shot at that it was all because of his negative thinking.

I bet the SNL deal was funny - but sad at the same time as this mess is passed off in the name of Jesus - who was a homeless guy who was executed as a criminal. Is the sketch on YouTube?

I searched for it, but only found references to it being removed for copyright violations.
I tried to think real positive about it being there, but alas.
Maybe if Jesus had sent His two hundred dollar "faith seed" to Robert Tilton, he could be living in a mansion. Oh wait. :-)

Mike, you are a funny dude. Thanks for keeping it real? Are you coming around to bang drums at Inversion any time soon? You are welcome to come out and hang any time.

"You can be your own God."
I'm pretty sure I'd be bad at that job. Pretty good on the fire, brimstone and lightning bolts, but not so hot in the compassion department. Things would get ugly in a hurry.
"Oh, you want to worship a graven image, eh? I got your graven image right here!"

If we are all gods, why did we forget our divine perfection? Why is life so tragic? I guess we are pretty nasty, selfish deities

How close-minded of you Reid. I, on the other hand, am open-minded. Every view is valid and acceptable. However I will not accept your close-mindedness.

John, you would not be a good god. But you are a good John Jenkins. Good hearing from you man. I always enjoy your humor.
At least you understand the reality of divine justice - receiver the mercy part from him is tough sometimes.
I pray you are well.
