Should Churches Not Meet in Person?

CNN has a story running about Internet Worship services and consuming/experiencing/participating in teaching and worship through web sites.

What do you think?  Do you think we should have chart in the chat room?  Church by twitter?  Church in Second Life?

Personally, I think the church should utilize technology heavily in its ministry.  Podcasts, vodcasts, member sites, databases, video, etc to facilitate its communication and ministry.  However, it seems to me that the "church" or the "ekklesia" is a gathered people.  Disembodying church seems to be a horrible idea as God has made us embodied creatures in community.

What do you think?

I am 100% against a "church" service where there is no real gathering at a specific point in space/time. The reason why is that I don't think the communion of the covenant people is possible otherwise. Do I sound like a Presbyterian? Ok good, thanks :-)

There ain't a thing wrong with sounding Presbyterian...other than infant baptism.

I agree, one more on "communion" - there is no virtual communion as the Lord's Supper is meant to be actually, physically consumed. Though I could see people have little bread and wine icons being consumed by your avatar...sad.

And if you want to get baptized, your avatar could then be submerged in a graphic of a river or baptistry. We are in such a sorry state if that actually sound appealing or right to people.

I agree The Church should meet in person. Community can not be lived out via web cam. Unless you are living in a society where public worship is punishable by death, then I could make the case for internet worship. However, if you live in that society you probably wont have access to the World Wide Worshiping Web.
