Chuck D. had no clue about DNA and very little knowledge of genetics. He traveled to S. America and the Galapagos as the Captain's dining mate. Not sure of exact date.

Reid S. Monaghan comments on A small guide for wrestling with issues of creation and science

Reid S. I don't care about that though. Viruses can replicate without all those accoutrements; they simply need DNA or RNA. I have not seen any decent theories on the spont. gen. of these nucleic acids. I asked a Duke geneticist about this (she started it . . . on her blog) and she said that RNA came first. She could not explain how they came to be in the first place. My science department told me to ignore this aspect of evolution when teaching and told me to focus on homologous organs, mimicry and such. I said, "but this is the crux of the matter." We can't make DNA/RNA in a super-lab. Just two dates to consider:
Darwin' O of Species - 1859 (+/- 3)
Watson + Crick 2X helix- 1953
almost 100 years

Reid S. See reference to his book Faith, Form and Time. He holds the view held by Christians like ICR and Answers in Genesis.

Thanks Rae

Rae Burnett comments on A small guide for wrestling with issues of creation and science

You must have intentionally left out the point of view and all the scientific evidence (both for creation and a young earth) of the Creation Science Institute. To be honest, I have read much of the large volume edited by Miller but have not read Collins book - I will add it in...though I usually don't rec stuff I have not read. Collins' version, from what I have read on BioLogos, is not God directed evolution per say, but that naturalistic evolution was the means which brought about biodiversity we see. Perhaps a union of natural (Bio) and God's working (Logos) where the bifurcation of "natural" and "what God did" is removed all together. But I think he would go under #4 - old universe, some form of evolution...he also endorsed Walton's book so he may fit under #5 in reading Genesis but with a thumbs up to natural evolutionary processes bringing about all creatures.

Blessings Sandy - miss seeing you man...Kasey and the kids will be in Blacksburg a bit this summer in early July

Sandy comments on A small guide for wrestling with issues of creation and science

Good survey, bro.

Perhaps #6 under origins options would be Francis Collins (The Language of God) on theistic evolution, but not sure this would be considered an evangelical option though it is attractive to some evangelicals in the hard sciences.

Reid S. We don't do the the plastic shot glasses and take our time during communion which we do every week.

Bread - we use a loaf of nice bread people can tear and dip. We also have some crackers that are unleavened, gluten free, whey free - to be honest I have no idea what is in those except that they cause no allergies.

Cup - we use wine but also have a a cup of grape juice for the sake of conscience. If someone does not want to dip wine for reasons of conviction or past (a sober, recovering alcoholic) we want to have juice.

We put the bread and crackers on a plate and have two goblets sitting on an arty looking coaster labeled wine or juice. We have two of these tables at the front and we all get up and come to the table during a time of singing, prayer, reflection etc. Because of our view of the table (Spiritual Real Presence) we "come to Jesus" together as a church after the preaching of the word. Anyone who is a believer is welcome and the non Christians with us don't come - we lead that so they don't feel weird or anything.

Thanks how we roll

G-Rex comments on Historical Understandings of the Lord's Table

Chief, good summary. So does JW use the little cuppies or indiv goblets? Grape juice or wine? Do you use the round wafers (choking hazard), the pellets, tortillas or bread? Is it unleavened? Hope all is well. I'm just checking in and asking silly questions.

Glenn comments on Pre and iPhone 3G - Side by Side Use

I enjoyed reading your blog.
